7am Wednesday Morning

By: Mike Frost on: 09.07.05

I meet every Wednesday morning at 7.00am at the Four Olives (a café/deli in Darley Road) with two dear mates, Paul and David. Paul works with the Stock Exchange so the DNA breaks up when he has to bolt at 8.20 to catch the 8.25 ferry to the Quay. Dave and I are a little freer with our time. Dave is a self-employed professional photographer and arranges his days to suit himself (mainly), except when the Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, wants her picture taken (Dave is her personal photographer). I’m a college lecturer with no classes on Wednesday morning, so I’m a bit more relaxed as well.

We meet and eat breaky and talk through issues like relationships (Dave’s not married, but Paul and I are), work, mission. We let each other know who we’ve blessed that week. Or who we’ve eaten with and what we’ve learned from those encounters. We talk about where God is for us in all this. Sometimes we just work our way through a book to give the conversation some direction. They’re my good mates and I thank God for them. It’s great to have blokes that you can be honest with and accountable to. It’s not always comfortable. Sometimes we nail each other on certain issues, but I know they love me and respect me as I do them.
